Ambien puts me to sleep faster. Lunesta keeps me asleep longer. I seem to build a tolerance to Ambien. I will try and not take ambien on weekends or holidays, and substitute a benzo or tricyclic like elavil. Elavil makes me groggy the next day, but that is not as big a deal on weekends. ANS

Elavil: nothing
Rozerem: I believe this to be nothing but glorified melatonin. It's a joke.
Ambien: eh. sometimes.
Restoril: nothing
K-pins: on an empty stomach, maybe 4mg will make me alright
Valium: sometimes
Bromazepam: KICKED MY A$$! I'd sleep on this stuff for sure if I was sleeping for two days!
Midazolam: Didn't do much at 7.5mg. I was too scared to take the full 15mg.
Soma: I will not take these. I had a bad problem with them back in 2000 and have sworn myself off them. They make me feel TOO good. I'm off muscle relaxers (and believe me, FM doctors ALWAYS want to give them to you!)
Calms Forte: I take this as a mild nerve tonic when I have no benzos or don't really need them, just need to take the edge off. They are completely homeopathic and are nice for just a bit of relief from every day stress.
Melatonin: Worked years ago, doesn't work now.
Sleep MD: waste of money.
Trazodone: LOVE IT. Cannot take it because of the supreme daytime drowsiness. But damn if it doesn't knock my [censored] out all night.

Zopiclone: This one is strange. The taste is terrible and even my listerine doesn't make it go away. What's worse is that I sleep in a limbo on it, not quite asleep, not quite awake. Weirder than that, my husband says it has been making me moan in my sleep. I don't understand THAT at all.

I cannot take Benadryl or Seroquel due to akathesia-type reactions to both of them.

Right now, the best thing for sleeping for me is:
- eye mask
- earplugs, occassionally
- self-hypnosis for falling asleep and becoming relaxed
- a benzo of some sort, most of the time
- calming aromatherapy oils
- right now, the lunesta but I'm done with my samples after tonight and not real sure if I'm going to go with more. See what my Dr. and my psych. say next week.

I soetimes use 15 -30 mg. of Dormicum (Midazolam) ,It´s very fast acting and a good sleeping aid too.If i don´t got it,then 2-3mg´s of xanax or 20-30mg´s of Valium will do for me.But i think i´m pretty high tolerant. My doc wont prescribe me nothing,He´s stupid! ;\)

Not to change the subject, but I didn't recognize you until I read your edit line. You are a totally different person now. And I think the sleeping regimen you're using now is a pretty healthy one.

I use ambien, used to be a nervous wreck and halcion was good for that. Have to add a klonopin now, but don't want to really change meds.

ambien - woke up in candy wrappers and clueless about the entire previous night. thank god i never got in my car and drove!
lunesta - gross taste, only worked on an empty stomache.
trazadone - hangover the next day.
serroquel - weight gain!!
sonata - too short-acting, mabey good for daytime naps?
restoril - comparable to valium, had to take alot.
halcion - nothing.
tylenol pm - too tired the next day.
Soma/zanaflex - worked well, built tolerance quickly.
midazolam and a glass of wine have been my lifesavers for the passed 2 years. i take a 15mg and am out cold for 6-8 hours.

Well, I had the same experience with ambien, except usually my bed was filled with food not just wrappers, and I realized you're probably capable of almost anything with this med while asleep. Very dangerous.

why don't people Rx halcion anymore? that stuff was brilliant for sleeping. all i get is ambien now. there's a huge difference. i'd go to sleep with halcion. ambien - it's 50/50 at best.

I think there were reports of people sleep walking or something.
I loved Halcion. Short half life 4 to 5 hrs I think.
Ambien has many generic brands. Some work better than others.

Halcion is what my dentists offers if one is having a long dental procedure. Apparently, it erases all memory of the procedure. Weird.

Halcion has been under scrutiny due to some murders in the late 1980s. It is effective, but sleep killing, driving or the like are bad news.
Ambien has caused sleep driving, cooking and sexing in me, personally.

zopiclone or nitrazepam- Amswering original question. Generic Ambien didn't do much, trazadone made me feel hung over the next day.

When you are going through w/d's nothing helps but normally a low dose xanax or valium works best for me.

I still take ambien even though I have done the sleep walking, sleep eating, and sleep texting in the past. It seems if I plan the nite and hide the bottle to make certain that I don;t take more than 1, the side effects are minimal. However, if I happen to somehow take a 2nd too soon, that alter-person in a coma arrives and does some truely stupid stuff. Whats strange is that the deeper the "coma" the more up and around and active I'd be.

The worst was getting up the next morning and finding things moved or rearranged. Finding an ice cream container in the over-head lighting fixture was pretty telling.....milk in the pantry, full bowl of cheerios in the closet...that sort of thing.

that's so true, more than one and here it comes. I would never intend to take more than 1 but the last time i took them i woke up and there were like 12 missing and the rest were strewn across the room on the floor, I thought omg i just can't do this again. Problem is you take the one and something says well i'm comfortable but one more and i would go right out, after the second you have no clue what you did or why you would ever do it.

I had to add i laughed so hard at your post about the ice cream and cereal,,,, that's so true!!!!

I gotta tell ya,
I woke up one day clueless and went about my business. I noticed that a new, full 1/2 gal of ice cream was missing. I live alone so that added to the mystery.
It was days later when I was looking for this horrible smell that I looked up at the lighting panel and saw a dark spot...
when I lifted the panel the container falls out with the rancid cream that was stinking up the place.
I actually had to sit down and think about it for awhile. That was long ago and incidence now are fewer but I still keep all that in mind.
