Paul - calling docs "asswipes" because they don't give you what you want, when you want it is. . .well, counterproductive.
Think about it - if you were a doc - a new patient comes in, wants pain meds, do you just whip out your script pad? Don't think so. Any doc worth his/her salt is going to try to find the underlying cause. And, isn't that what you would want? Now THAT'S truly pain free.
Sometimes that is not possible. That's when the meds become a viable option. When you are in your 20s (please do not think I am singling out anyone here), and with a lifetime to be lived, tolerance issues etc, any good doc is going to be reluctant - and for good reason. BUT (and it is a strong BUT), stuff happens and if a person needs the meds, they should get them, whatever their age. I think it is safe to say that if you are "older", chances are that a doc will consider medication more readily.
At any rate, I am an Oregonian too and it does seem like the Pacific Northwest is basically ignored. Don't know why. Seattle is certainly a big enough city to warrant care. Hope that changes. Maybe it is a slow migration from east to west, lol. Or, right to left. But I bet there are plenty of people here in the west who need pain management.
If memory serves me (an iffy proposition, lol) there was once an ND who served Oregon. Don't know if he/she is still doing it and whether there were satisfactory results. Not too many patients were particularly thrilled with an ND.
OK, I've said enough about what I don't know.

Sheesh...well I've sort of been reading the posts on this board and finally got around to registering today. I thought maybe someone would have some brilliant ideas for doctor suggestions in the Seattle area as I am new here and my experience so far has been, well, less than positive. The doctors seem to be resistent to the idea of PMs and really disbelieving of the condition of chronic pain at all even though I've had it diagnosed for over 20 years. I've tried it all as many of the people on here relate--biofeedback, meditation, neurontin, topamax, depakote, a rainbow assortment of vitamins and minerals--really you name it. I've been scanned and examined by every specialist and when it comes down to it we probably all just want to live with some sort of normalcy. Is that too much to ask??
Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions in the Seattle/Tacoma area, I'd very much appreciate it. We have Group Health, but obviously at this point I'm open to whatever. You can PM me if that makes more sense. I appreciate the input a lot of everyone here!

Looking for a decent doctor in the seattle area.. F2F is fine.. whatever.. I'm just and the end of my rope.. I'm trying to find a doctor ideally that'll take my records and stuff via fax or mail, and go over them and just prescribe what im getting now and up my dosage accordingly.. I've been on oxycontin 40mg 3xDaily for over a year now.. and the tolerance is too much. I have degenerative arthritis/disk disease, an effed up hip, a skin disease that causes severely painful lesions in some of the more sensitive areas.. (yeah. i got scar tissue on my nuts.. nice eh?) and for some reason my current doctor seems to think i have enough pain relief. Honestly, I wish him a 5cm boil on his nuts so he knows what i know. At any rate.. I have a home care nurse.. and I'm getting SICK and tired of every month having to pick up a new prescription when it's hard for me to walk to the car even.. They wont let her pick up my scripts frmo the doc, but from the pharmacy? no prob.. with my name and address she can walk outta there with as many schedule 2 narcotics as they prescribed me. I don't see why the pharmacies are understanding about patient disability and the doctors aren't.. I mean.. Isn't it OBVIOUS if I NEED 40mg oxycontin, that I probably am in pain to the point where I don't want to move, let alone travel to downtown seattle and sit in traffic and find parking and wait in super uncomfortable doctors chairs for my appointment, just to get the relief im entitled to. please.. PLEASE.. I know I'm new here.. but someone understand what im going through, and help me find a real understanding doctor.. I'm to the point where I'll give 250$ of my monthly social security check for the appointment if it gets me the meds I need to be active again.. I miss a year ago.. when the dose was first upped, I could walk.. I could go out with friends.. I could sit somewhere for an hour, have coffee, without crying from the pain.. I miss having a life.. and giving me a life then taking it away.. it's cruel. I woulda rather just died not knowing what i was missing.. but now, I'm a 31y/o sitting at home, with a brilliant mind, suffering with nothing to do. I was 530lbs 2 years ago. The medication helped my quality of life so much I'm down to 370.. I'm 6'7.. and it's hard on my body. They don't understand that I'm putting weight back on because i've pushed myself, my tolerance has gone up, and now I'm in more pain again.. I don't want to sit here, suffer, put the weight back on and be back where i was at.. I'm already in severe pain just from sittin here long enough to type this message.. So, I'm hoping someone can give me some advice, pointers, a doctor to see, etc. Thanks in advance to everyone reading, and good luck to the rest of you sad folk here as well.. I know how you feel, I know what you go through.. and god bless. -Elucidation
