Hi

I mentioned in a previous post that I am in extreme pain from a car accident I was in in July.....Lower - mid - and upper back - 2 bulging discs in my neck, spasms in my neck, and nerve damage to the left side of my neck. Also double vision as a result of the head trauma suffered.

Does anyone know of a compassionate pain management doctor in the NYC area? My Orthopedist flat out said no more pain meds, and the pain management doctor that I am seeing now says he will be lowering my dose.

I went from 10mg Percocet to 7.5mg Percocet. Next visit will be 5mg Percocet and that will be it.

I am also on 5mg Valium for the spasms in my neck. I was originally on 10mg, was lowered to 5, and will be lowered to 2mg and then cut off completely.

The pain that I am suffering is so bad that I need some sort of pain meds. I honestly will not be able to function without them. My attorney was supposed to find me another pain management physician, but I have yet to hear from him (It's been over a week)

Sorry for the rambling - I just don't know what to do.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA.

I suggest you look at the US list on this site and check out each website, than call them to discuss what you need. They will not promise you anything but you may feel more comfortable with one more than another. Research is the key. There is tons of feed back on each site so look at that also.
Sometimes the less chatter about a site means everyone is happy so don't get spooked if one or two haven't had a post in a while.
We all have to do research at times. After you do your research than you may get a better response here if you have questions about a certain referral service listed.
When it comes to PM you can look for another one on your own. Why wait for the lawyer? In your area there must be tons of them. I would find one or two and run it past the lawyer but mention to him you have to find someone to help you in the future now not later.

Thanks.

Funny thing - my attorney called me about a half hour after I posted and recomended one. I have an appointment with him on Thursday. If all goes well and he's a good doctor, do you think I should post his info on here for others in the NYC area?

WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO PM people who want/need the information? That may be a better idea than just posting Drs. info...this can be a touchy area.

GOOD LUCK ON THURSDAY!!!!

Props to your attorney. Is there something in particular about this practice that made him or her feel that this service was more solid than others? I always like to know what people are looking for.

Good luck

Army Vet - I would have never considered calling my attorney. Good on you. And it sounds like you have a caring one.

I truly hope that your appt goes well. I think the "higher" professions (attorneys, docs, etc) are well connected. May this doc treat you according to your needs.

Do NOT post the docs info. And IMHO, do not PM the info either. I know my doc would not appreciate it. I have never given out his info - even tho I have been asked. Info like that would flood the doc (and then YOU would be screwed). Please heed this advice.

Yes, it is true that many here need good PM. But, like many things in life, we must all find our way.

May your appt go well. It can be a difficult process - be prepared for that. Be up front, honest.

OK, before I write another book, I'll sign off. Hope to hear it came out great.

WarVet, If your attorney is in the middle of helping you form a case due to your accident then I no doubt believe he suggested this Dr (and probably has to others as well) due to your injuries and condition. This is very normal. It helps his interests and yours as well to keep you under a physicians care until a suit is settled. I have no doubt if this is the case that your Dr appt will be successful.

Good luck to you and I hope your healing goes well.

Yes - my attorney suggested this particular doctor because of an ongoing lawsuit.

I have a 10am appt with him, and I will let you all know how it goes. And yes, I would be willing to PM the info to people that need it in the NYC area as yankeefan suggested. I agree.....its probably a better idea than posting it out in the open for the DEA et. al. to see.

I'll report back later today after my days is finished.

A quick update.

The doctor that I was referred to was EXCELLENT. He was caring, took the time to listen, asked which treatments worked in the past/didn't work in the past, etc.

I walked out with a script for #100 10mg Percocet and #90 5mg Valium. I have a followup with him in a month so he can see how my treatment is progressing.

So I think I found a good one. All he had to do was look at me and he could see I was in pain.

I'm so glad that your appt. went so well and you're receiving high quality treatment.

Pain is absolutely the most miserable thing a body can suffer with.

WarVet, I am happy that the Appt turned out well as I assumed that it would based on your pending lawsuit and the Attorney's interest. I am 100% behind pain care and do hope your healing continues to where you will not need as much. Saying this, I just want you to be aware that you should make sure on your next appt that you let the Dr know if your pain is becoming more manageable. The only reason I am saying this is because I know while you are in this lawsuit that it is in the best interest of the Attorney to prove your medical condition (no doubt here he can) and that you are under Medical Care (which you are). What you do not want to happen (My opinion Only) is the Dr to keep prescribing later if not needed because he may also be used by the Attorney as a witness in your case and in the end you could become addicted due to the interests of others. I have witnessed that happening is all.

Stay Well and happy to hear you had a great appt...
