When I click links on the boards here, occasionally instead of opening the page, a box pops up like I'm downloading something, asking if I want to save the file. Like my browser interprets the page as something to dl instead of some place to go to. It doesn't do this on any other site, and it only does it here every 7 or 8 times I click a page.

I swear, I'm not as computer illiterate as this post makes me sound, I just can't come up with a better way of describing the problem. It is quite annoying, anyone know what's going on? speechless2

Thanks folks

P.S. I'm using Firefox, if that helps...

Here's an example, I just clicked on this thread to come here and make this post, and instead of opening the thread, I got the "save file" dialog box, which I had to close. I clicked the thread again and it got me here... ridiculous.

I'm hoping some tech-nerds on here might be able to help me. This has never happened on any other site, so I don't think its a browser problem, maybe something in my settings for this site... I've tried changing random things but it still does it. Did it when I tried to get back into this thread actually! Its not a huge deal, just annoying.

You probably need to update Firefox or maybe do an add on for a ad blocker.

This site isn't the only one that has been an issue for Firefox since the big update in the Summer.

I have noticed on some links, once you click on them it directly takes you to the GoDaddy.com website. Why would that be?

Browser settings should help the problem. There are usually settings in IE and Firefox to help manage cookies (only accept per session, ask before accepting, etc,) and pop ups as well.

Links to web pages – when a page (domain name) has expired, it will either give you an error – page can’t be found or take you to the hosting co website – like GoDaddy.

Last – any page that opens and wants to download something is usually virus related.

Best bet is get read up on your browser settings to make it more secure and also look into software suites that will help manage spyware, antivirus (AV) and cookies.
I could go on, but at bare minimum, make sure you have good AV and up to date protection on your PC.

Hope this helps

I noticed. My AVG caught one this morning and it was that "GoDaddy" one.

Yup. GoDaddy does have pop ups long with a lot of legitimate websites - usually ad's or offers and harmless.

Due to the nature of the board and the websites discussed here, it would be an essential and wise move to have a security suite or a browser secured.

You never know with some of the non legit sites - besides trying to scam a user they can also try and infect the PC.

2 for the price of 1 - get scammed and infected by one click. Just adds to the fun of it.

I'm glad I'm set up good. It caught it right away as soon as I hit the site and then removed it immediately.
